Job Title: Executive Director
Reporting to:
President and Deputy President, Executive Committee & Council

Job Purpose:
To support the Charter objectives of the Institute, to facilitate and support the Executive Committee and the Council, and the internal and external relationships necessary for the Institute’s success.
Description of Role:
The role of Executive Director is to lead the Institute’s Secretariat team, to support the Institute’s Offices, to develop and maintain key industry relationships, and to monitor and manage risks and threats to the Institute’s development.

Key Objectives
1. Lead the Institute and the Secretariat team
Provide leadership to the industry by ensuring that the Institute’s qualifications and membership categories are the ones of choice for claims professionals. Provide and maintain the conditions necessary to support the growth of the Secretariat’s personnel so that they are a motivated and high-performing unit. Motivate and provide support to the Institute’s various bodies and committees.

2. Growth in Membership
Responsible for ensuring the growth of Membership and an increase in all categories of qualifications and membership.

3. Governance
To develop, implement and carry out all practices and procedures as considered necessary for the Institute and recommend changes where appropriate by agreeing the practical needs and applying change with the agreement of the Executive Committee and Council.

4. Risk & Compliance Management
Scanning for, identification of and monitoring of risks and threats to the Institute. Bringing matters of importance to the Executive and Council’s attention for agreement and mitigation. Awareness of Institute’s legal requirements and ensuring compliance with same.

Feedback from the Executive and Council
Responsibility for own training and development and for facilitating a learning environment for personnel.

6. Health and Safety
Responsible for all Health & Safety matters relating to the Institute and its personnel

Promote the culture, values and ethos of the Institute
Working Conditions
Desk based, home and office in London to meet the requirements of the role, with travel as necessary

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Excellent Insurance industry knowledge – likely to have been acquired over 5 years
Excellent technical insurance knowledge – likely to have been acquired over 5 years
Excellent experience of working at a senior executive level in an organization managing internal & external relationships - likely to have been acquired over 5 years
Excellent level of experience in dealing with complex intra- and inter-organizational issues - likely to have been acquired over 5 years
Excellent experience of organising and prioritising a demanding and heavy workload
Excellent experience of managing and supporting meetings
Excellent ability to develop and maintain strategically important relationships
Knowledge of ongoing technical issues
Knowledge of pedagogical techniques and trends
Experience of delivering on major projects and attendant knowledge of systems thinking
Knowledge/Experience
Professional Qualification or undergraduate degree
Associate or Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters, or equivalent
